Special Dads

It’s Father’s Day in the US! I spent the day with my own dad (and mom), enjoying conversation over lunch and afterwards, strolling through a museum until it was time to head back home. Thinking on what to share here today, I did a quick search on Google under Special Needs Dads. I found many blogs or blog related material, but very little focused website supports. With research stating roughly 80% of marriages end in divorce when there is a child with disabilities, wouldn’t it be a good thing to have supports for EVERYONE in the family. Moms get a lot of attention, sibs get some, but dads are typically the last in line. Here’s a few blogs and such to sort through, if you find a good nugget, share with a special dad!

Fathers Network –Home and Transition (Based in WA)

Lovethatmax – Another blogger asks dads to chime in on why they rock…take a gander to see what they said. Also, check out the links at the bottom of the blog.

Dads 4 Special Kids – This is an older site, but has a few good resources/posts which might be of interest. (based in AZ)

Special Education Advisor – Great article about 8 dads who have children with differing needs.

Focus on the Family – not a disability specific site, but great parenting info, including dads!
