Teacher Quality (NCTQ)
Posted: October 18, 2012 Filed under: Education, Research, Resource | Tags: education, Research, Resource Leave a commentI recently started following NCTQ (National Council on Teacher Quality) on Twitter and then popped over to their website. This research and policy group strives to provide the voice of reform in quality teacher preparation, regulation and retention. The PDQ Blog is worth a read, as well as the Reports and Database tabs. Check out the State Teacher Policy Yearbookunder the Database tab… very interesting info! (my home state of Virginia received an overall D+ in the 5 review areas for 2011…YIKES) How is your state doing?
Be on the look out for the first review findings in 2013!

Write Right

This is an excellent writing source for secondary, post-secondary and workplace writing.

of Frogs and Apps
Posted: October 1, 2012 Filed under: Education, Research, Resource, Technology | Tags: education, interactive dissection, Research, Resource, Technology, virtual frog dissection Leave a commentReading this info and watching the video brought back the vile smell of formaldehyde and visions of the dreaded science lab dissections. I vividly remember naming the baby pig I was about to cut open “Frenchy” because its tongue was hanging out. Aside from dredging up memories better left buried, this resource is pretty cool!
Virtual Frog Dissection offers formaldehyde free science exploration for students. This app works on iPads, desktops, laptops, netbooks and interactive whiteboards. Interactive dissection provides students opportunities to not only explore the frog anatomy, but there’s a side by side comparison of human vs. frog anatomy. Not only does this app provide animal killing free zones, but for students with allergies, fine and gross motor challenges, and need for language supports, this app is an excellent alternative utilizing “assistive technology.”
